BMW G30 LCI Tail Lights Retrofit: Plug and Play?

A BMW G30 LCI tail lights retrofit replaces the rear lighting for a later-style appearance on a suitable pre-LCI 5 Series saloon. It is not automatically plug and play: the supplied units, original connectors, wiring and vehicle configuration must be checked together. JGS lists a tail-light-only option as well as lighting and rear-end packages. Choose the scope you need, then send VIN and lamp photographs so suitability and any installer work can be confirmed before ordering.

What the G30 LCI rear-light change means

BMW's 2020 5 Series update introduced a different rear-light design. That factory description explains the later styling; it does not establish the connector arrangement or specification of an aftermarket conversion set. G30 saloon fitment must not be assumed to cover the G31 Touring.

Are G30 LCI tail lights plug and play?

Treat plug and play as a claim to verify for a specific lamp set and vehicle, not a synonym for LCI. A matching external shape does not confirm the pin arrangement, loom, modules or electrical configuration. The existing JGS listing does not promise a lamp count or included modules.

  • Match the original rear-light layout and connector photographs to the proposed supplied units.
  • Ask whether adapters or loom changes are required, and whether they are actually included.
  • Confirm market specification and any previous lighting modifications.

Coding and checks after installation

Coding may be required depending on the vehicle and supplied lights. Agree the exact work with your installer before purchase rather than assuming either no coding or a universal coding procedure. Have the installer check the required rear-light functions and any dashboard errors before the car returns to use. This guide is not a wiring or coding procedure.

Which package should you compare?

Use the tail-light-only listing when the planned work is rear lighting. Compare the lighting package if you also want headlights, or the rear-end package if bumper and diffuser changes are part of the same job. The complete G30 M-Tech kit already lists both headlights and rear lights; they are not universally optional across all packages.

Send the starting specification before ordering

Send VIN, production date, original lighting specification and photographs of the rear lamps and accessible connectors. The catalogue lists Pre-LCI 2018–2020 starting cars; 2017 builds need a VIN and production-date check. Those year references do not establish individual compatibility or plug-and-play operation.

Product questions & answers

Can G30 LCI-style tail lights be retrofitted to a pre-LCI car?

A retrofit may be suitable after the original vehicle and proposed lights are checked. Send VIN and photographs; the G30 name alone does not confirm suitability.

Are G30 LCI tail lights plug and play?

This cannot be promised from the model name alone. Confirm connectors, wiring, supplied adapters or modules and vehicle configuration before ordering.

Will a G30 tail light retrofit need coding?

Coding may be required depending on the vehicle and supplied lights. Agree the work with your installer before purchase.

Do I have to buy a rear bumper with G30 tail lights?

The current catalogue has a tail-light-only option excluding body panels, plus a rear-end package including bumper, diffuser and rear lights. Suitability of either option still needs a vehicle check.

Are rear lights included in the complete G30 conversion kit?

Yes. The listed complete G30 LCI M-Tech kit includes headlights and rear lights. Partial package contents differ, so check the specific listing.
